ALPENA — After twice being rejected a special use permit to open an adult-use marijuana store in Alpena, the owners of Meds Cafe will receive their needed permit.
The Alpena Municipal Council voted 4-1 at a special meeting Thursday to settle litigation against the city after Meds Cafe.
Meds Cafe filed suit against the city after the Alpena Planning Commission voted against the permit. Despite compliance with all of the required standards established in the zoning ordinance, the proposed store faced large opposition from residents who live in the neighborhood where the store hoped to open near the intersection of Campbell Street and Ripley Boulevard.
The settlement won’t be final until a judge signs it in the 26th Circuit Court.
City Attorney Bill Pfeifer said that could happen as early as today.
